June 6, 2010 – “Daddy are you goin’ in wa wa (water)?”

  water-1
I’m putting together more and more words as evidenced by my statement today when I saw Daddy heading to the pool. “Daddy are you goin’ wa wa?” We went to the waterpark for a little bit today. I was hesitant at first and didn’t want to walk in the water. I also wouldn’t let Mommy or Daddy take off my shoes. I finally warmed up and started walking a little bit on my own. Another little boy let me play with some of his water toys (bucket, boat, water wheel). Mommy always forgets to bring me toys.

I really just wanted to go down the big waterslide. My and dad kept saying I wasn’t big enough that the lifeguards said no but I just really really wanted to go. “I wa…I wa….I want….I want-e!” Daddy finally had to carry me kicking and screaming because I wouldn’t stop. water5-1

I practiced stacking and balancing my cars on top of each other. I only got three high. P1160511

“No Fall!” As his little man is dangling from his toes. P1160514 (2)P1160513 (2)I can scratch my face with my toes.

I was watching Little Einstein’s when I saw a shoe like this one. I said, “Cow shoe”. Mommy thought that was so smart and she gushed all over me. Oh yeah and at dinner I was eating and told Mommy, “Applesauce. I wanne applesauce. Go that way! <pointing to kitchen> Please.” Mommy is getting all sentimental and gushy over all my new phrases and how grown up I’m getting.

Mommy got my Audiology Evaluation in the mail today. Remember I had an appointment early this week and I have to go back because I had an ear infection and they need to do the tests again? All the medical terms had Mommy confused and worried but after looking up everything on the internet it seems that all the “negative” things are probably just because of my ear infections. Hopefully that will get cleared up and I can retake the test and show Mommy there is nothing to worry about. Mommy is taking note of how many times I say, “Huh?” or “What?” She never noticed how much I really do that. Also she keeps thinking back to those videos where I would turn my head funny and say, “Whhhaattt?” You can read what they said below and understand why Mommy was freaking out.

Otoscopy was unremarkable for the right ear and revealed a red left tympanic membrane. Tympanometry revealed a normal ear canal volume, static acoustic admittance, and peak pressure value for the right ear and a flat response with a normal ear canal volume for the left ear. Otoacoustic emissions, a measure of cochlear outer hair cell integrity, was measured using a transient stimulus. TEOAE’s were passing and present at the 1000, 2000, and 3000 HZ frequency regions in the right ear and were not tested in the left ear. Behavioral audiometry was completed using Visual Reinforcement Audiometry in the sound field with two testers and good reliability. Sound field results were consistent with essentially normal hearing sensitivity from 500 –4000 H in at least the better hearing ear. A speech detection threshold (SDT) was obtained at 20 dB HL in at least the better hearing ear. Additional testing could not be completed due to the patient’s exhausted attention (I understood this…he would no longer sit still). Clinical impressions & summary: essentially normal hearing sensitivity in at least the better hearing ear, Tympanometry was normal for the right ear and consistent with middle ear effusion in the left ear, abnormal otoscopy in the left ear, TEOAE’s suggested normal function of the cochlear outer hair cells in the right ear, additional ear specific behavioral information is needed to completely rule out hearing loss in either ear.
